은/는 중 Grammar - Beginner

5. 친구와 하고 점심을 먹는 중이에요. I am having lunch with a friend.

6. 한국어를 공부하는 중이에요. I am studying Korean.

 은/는 중

This expression is used with a noun that indicates the content of an action and means that the subject is in the process of performing the action. It corresponds to ‘in the process/middle of’ or ‘currently doing ’ in English. After a noun, 중 is added, and after a verb -는 중 is added to the verb stem.

Example:

 1. 지하철 공사 중입니다.(지하철 공사하는 중입니다.)
     The subway is under construction.

     (The subway is in the course of construction.)

2. 사장님은 회의 중입니다.(= 사장님은 회의하는중입니다.)
    The president is in a meeting. (The president is currently having a meeting.)

3. 지금 집에 가는 중이에요. (I ’m) on the way home. 

4. 배화점이 세일 중이에요.The department store is having a sale.
