It is added to a stem of a verb or an adjective to accentuate or conclude the preceding clause, so an opposite or a comparative fact is declared in the following clause.
Example:
1. 고래는 동물이지 물고기가 아닙니다.
Whales are animals, not fish.
2. 그 사람은 성격만 좋지 일은 잘하지 못해요.
He has a good personality, but he is not good at work.
3. 이번 일은 같이 했지 저 혼자서 계획한 게 아니잖아요?
We worked on this together, but I didn't plan it by myself, right?
4. 키만 크지 운동은 잘 못해요.
He is tall, but I'm not good at sports.
5. 주말에만 복잡하지 평일에는 한산해요.
It's crowded only on weekends, but it's a quiet weekday.
6. 여기는 화사 사무실이지 집이 아니에요.
This is a work office, not a home.
