→ It is added to a stem of a verb or an adjective, which is used when a speaker admits what he said before, and then links it to its comparative, contradictive situation or action. It is usually used in a literary style.
Example:
1. 두 건물의 모습은 비슷하나 내부 구조는 아주 다르다
Even though the two buildings look similar on the outside, their inner structures are very different.
2. 늦은 감이 있으나 지금부터라도 대책을 세워야 한다.
Even though I have the feeling that it is rather too late, we should still take measures.
3. 이번 올림픽에 대규모 선수단을 파견했으나 결과는 기대 이하였다.
Even though we sent a large team to the Olympics this year, the result was still below
expectations.
4. 이 도자기는 화려하지는 않으나 우아한 멋과 색으로 평가받고 있어요.
This pottery is not flashy, but it is evaluated for its elegant style and color.
5. 문제 해결을 위해 두나라 정부가 노력하고 있으나 결과는 더두고 봐야 할 것이다.
The governments of the two countries are working hard to resolve the problem, but the results will have to wait.
